Karnataka Bandh LIVE Updates: The ‘Karnataka Bandh’ called to protest release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu is likely to impact normal life, especially in the southern part of state. All schools and colleges have been shut in Mandya and Bengaluru districts of Karnataka on Friday in view of the ‘Bandh’ called by pro-Kannada and farmers’ organisations. Protestors are taking out procession from Town Hall to Freedom Park in Bengaluru, in which people from all walks of life are participating. The bandh is for entire Karnataka and protestors said they will try to shut highways, toll gates, rail services, and airports.

We requested the institutions not to call for a bandh since there is no consent from the Supreme Court or High Court. So, Bengaluru and Karnataka are safe…In the afternoon there is a meeting, I have sent our team there. We will discuss various issues,” said Shivakumar.
The Kannada film industry has extended support to the bandh. Theatres across the State have cancelled shows till evening, with the Karnataka Film Exhibitors Association backing the bandh.
“The Cauvery water issue is being politicised. Cauvery water is the lifeline for this area. I am from this district (Mandya) and we will always extend support to this cause,” Kannada Director and actor Prem told ANI.

Kannada organisations headed by Vatal Nagraj call for ‘KRS Chalo’ on October 5; Organisations will hold a rally from Mysore Circle in Bengaluru and Gherao at KRS dam against the release of Cauvery water.
Former Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Friday demanded that the state government release the activists detained during the bandh to protest the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
On Karnataka Bandh, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya on Friday said, “The state government is releasing Cauvery River water to Tamil Nadu. If Cauvery River water is going to Tamil Nadu like this, the people of Bengaluru will not have drinking water. The Karnataka government has failed to present its case before CWMA (Cauvery Water Management Authority).”

The Karnataka police on Friday detained members of pro-Kannada organisations who were protesting over the Cauvery water release issue. Visuals from the ground show protesters being forced inside the police vehicles.
‘Kannada Okkuta’, an umbrella organisation for Kannada outfits including factions of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, Kannada Chalavali (Vatal Paksha) and various farmers’ bodies have given a call for the statewide dawn-to-dusk shutdown on Friday.

As part of the bandh from 6 am to 6 pm on Friday, there will be a massive protest procession from Town Hall to Freedom Park in the city, in which people from all walks of life are likely to participate, the organisers said.
The Karnataka Bandh call for Friday has spoiled the travel plans for many as it comes before a long weekend, however, tour, hotels and resort operators are already flooded with requests to shuffle schedules as travelling during the state-wide bandh is unadvisable.
Authorities have clamped prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code in Bengaluru Urban, Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagara, Ramanagara and Hassan districts, and declared a holiday for schools and colleges there.
Most of the shops, business establishments and eateries in Cauvery basin districts such as Mandya in southern part of the State downed their shutters. Private vehicles were off the roads in those areas.

A group of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) activists on Thursday held a massive protest in Bengaluru against the state MPs and Siddaramaiah Government over the Cauvery River water issue. The KRV activists shouted slogans of “Cauvery Is Ours” as they protested against the release of the river water to Tamil Nadu.
KRV Women’s Wing President Ashwini Gowda said that this is the time for all Kannadigas to come together and demanded that the state-elected MPs should come up and speak up on the matter and stand for the people of Karnataka or resign from the post.

All public and private banks will function in Karnataka as per usual. There will be no change in the timings of banks due to Bandh.
