The protest in Bengaluru today is among the two bandhs scheduled this week, the second one being a statewide bandh on Friday, September 29. Traffic advisories were issued for the bandh today, while schools and colleges were also declared shut. Google, meanwhile, asked its employees to work from home today. Vistara, IndiGo were among the airlines that issued travel advisory for its passengers.

Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Tuesday claimed the Karnataka government released Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu after succumbing to the pressure from the ruling DMK and the INDIA bloc.
He alleged the Siddaramaiah government released the water as the Congress was aware that it could not survive without the MK Stalin-led Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu.
Seven TNSTC buses plying from the Nilgiris to Bengaluru and Mysuru stopped services temporarily on Tuesday as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers as the state hold protests over Cauvery dispute.

Cauvery Water Regulation Committee in Delhi has recommended Karnataka to release 3000 cusecs of water everyday at Biligundlu starting from September 28 to October 15.

Amidst a citywide ‘bandh’, police personnel have reportedly been deployed in Bengaluru’s Cottonpete to maintain law and order, an NDTV report mentioned.
According to an NDTV report, more than 200 protesters were taken into custody for violating prohibitory orders when they were trying to march towards Raj Bhavan from Vidhana Soudha led by the Chairman of the federation of pro-Kannada organisations, Vatal Nagaraj, his deputy Praveen Shetty, and others.
“My party has already extended support for a peaceful ‘bandh’,” said JD(S) chief HD Deve Gowda on ‘Bengaluru bandh’ on Tuesday called by pro-Kannda organisations and farmers’ associations protesting against the release of the Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

“I congratulate the Bengaluru people and other organisations for their protest. They are staging protest peacefully. I’m checking the water level every morning and evening. Lets see what our officials will do. Inflow is around 8-10,000 cusec. We’re not able to leave 5000 cusecs of water can we release extra 12,500 cusecs? No matter how much they demand we can’t release the extra water demanded by them,” said Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday.
