Bengaluru Bandh News LIVE Updates: A bandh is being observed in Karnataka’s Bengaluru today amid continuous protests in the state against the release of Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu. The protest in Bengaluru today is among the two bandhs scheduled this week, the second one being a statewide bandh on Friday, September 29. Traffic advisories have been issued for the bandh today, while schools and colleges will also remain closed. Google, meanwhile, has asked its employees to work from home today. Vistara, IndiGo are among the airlines that have issued travel advisory for its passengers.

Key EventsAccording to a PTI report, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda, citing existing restrictions and court orders, said there is no permission for any bandh or procession in the city.
“No one can forcefully implement the bandh by using force, other than in cases where someone wants to observe it voluntarily,” he said.
Amidst the citywide bandh, members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike staged a protest in Bengaluru’s Ramanagara over the Cauvery river water sharing issue.

President of the Bangalore Hoteliers Association, PC Rao said restaurants will remain closed in the city today amid the call for ‘Bengaluru Bandh’.
“It’s our duty, we are also supporting the bandh as we are not getting justice for several years,” he said, according to an ANI report.
However, earlier, the Hotel Owners’ Association had decided to withdraw support for the ‘Bandh’ stating all hotels and restaurants will be open in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

Bus services from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu faced disruptions on Tuesday due to the ‘Bandh’ called in Bengaluru regarding the Cauvery water issue.
Several buses from Tamil Nadu are reportedly being stopped at Zuzuvadi in Krishnagiri district of the state.

Multiple airlines including IndiGo, Vistara, Akasa Air, and SpiceJet have issued a travel advisory for passengers travelling to the Kempegowda International Airport as transport is likely to be hit across the city due to the ‘Bandh’.

“We have made adequate bandobast (arrangements). As per the order of the commissioner, no protest or procession is allowed. Traffic is normal,” said DCP central Bengaluru Shekar T Tekkannavar on Tuesday.

Amidst the call for ‘Bengaluru Bandh’ on Tuesday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said his government will not curtail the protests, but underlined the importance of maintaining peace.
“In a democracy, we (government) will not curtail protests, but BJP and JD(S) are trying to do politics on the issue,” the chief minister told reporters.
Hospitals, nursing homes, medical stores and government offices will remain open. Ambulances, pharma vehicles and other essential goods-carrying vehicles will run as usual.
In the wake of the ‘Bengaluru Bandh’ call given by pro-Kannda outfits on Tuesday, less passengers were seen at Majestic bus stop, one of the busiest bus stops in the state.

The Hotel Owners’ Association withdrew support from the call for ‘Bandh’ on Tuesday and said all hotels and restaurants will be open across city.
Metro services will run across the city without any disruptions on any line on Tuesday. App based cab services like Ola and Uber will also be available as usual.
Ola-Uber Drivers’ Association on Monday said they would extend full support for the September 29 ‘Karnataka Bandh’ called by pro-Kannada organisations but will not support Tuesday’s ‘Bengaluru Bandh’.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda said that prohibitory orders under section 144 will be in effect across the city from September 25 midnight to September 26 midnight in the wake of the ‘Bandh’.
Bengaluru Urban district Deputy Commissioner Dayananda K A declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in the city on Tuesday in the wake of the ‘Bandh’. Most private schools and colleges across the city had already declared holiday for students.
