Canada faces global embarrassment for honouring a Nazi veteran; Russia, Poland slam Trudeau govt
In yet another embarrassment for Canada, Russia is now seeking answers from Ottawa after the House of Commons gave a standing ovation to 98-year-old Yaroslav Hunka, who is believed to have fought in the Second World War on behalf of a Nazi military unit. The Kremlin said on Monday it was "outrageous" that the speaker of Canada's House of Commons had praised an individual at a parliamentary meeting who served in a Nazi unit during World War Two. Canadian Speaker Anthony Rota apologised on Sunday after recognizing 98-year old Yaroslav Hunka as a "Ukrainian hero" before the Canadian Parliament.
