India has sent a strong 13-member contingent to represent the tricolour at the Hangzhou Asian Games. A lot will be on the line as the boxers won’t just be competing for a podium finish but also a spot in the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. A total of 34 places will be competed at the Hangzhou Gymnasium and Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre from September 24 to October 5.

India’s squad is packed with multiple talents including two-time Olympian Shiva Thapa and World bronze medallists Deepak Bhoria and Nishant Dev. In the female camp, world champions Nikhat Zreen and Lovlina Borghohain. Asian Champion Parveen Hooda will also be representing India with the hope of securing a place in the next Olympics.

Boxing was first introduced to the Asian Games in 1954. The competition has since crowned several boxing icons in their history.

India will be facing some serious competition from Kazakhstan who will be sending six world-title holders to the Asian Games. Tokyo Olympics silver medallists Carlo Paalam and Nesthy Patecio will be looking to make the Philippines proud while Uzbekistan’s Olympic gold medallists Bakhodir Jalolov and Hasanboy Dusmatov will also be competing at the event. Needless to say, the boxing event at the Asian Games is going to be an exciting affair.
