The police have filed a complaint against the woman's father-in-law and husband under relevant sections while the victim has also recorded her statement before a magistrate

In Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district, a man allegedly raped her pregnant daughter-in-law, after which the woman’s husband reportedly abandoned her. As per complaint filed by the woman, the incident happened on August 5.

The 26-year-old victim filed the complaint on September 7, more than a month after the incident. In her report, she also alleged that her father-in-law threatened and beat her up.

Sharing update on the alleged crime, SHO Ravinder Yadav told news agency PTI, “Police have registered case against father-in-law and the husband under relevant sections on the complaint of the victim and launched an investigation (sic)."

Victim’s statement is also recorded before a magistrate under Section 164 (Recording of confessions and statements) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), said the official. However, the accused, father-in-law of the woman, has denied the charges and alleged that her daughter-in-law is trying to extract money.

The incident has reminded of a similar case happened in June 2005 with a 28-year-old woman.

She was raped by her father-in-law and later banned by panchayat to reside with her husband. Further the panchayat asked the woman to treat her husband as her son.
