After wearing the shoes, the elephant is reportedly getting healed and has started walking properly without being in pain.

There is a saying, “All heroes don’t wear capes," and often, many people prove this statement to be correct. A young doctor found an innovative way to treat an injured elephant. It is reported that a 60-year-old elephant named Kumari in Harave Elephant Camp of Hunsur Taluk of the Mysuru district in Karnataka got her right leg severely injured a few days back. The medical team treated the elephant but as soon as Kumari kept her feet on the ground, the medicine would get mixed with the soil and the pain would continue.

A 29-year-old veterinarian Dr H Ramesh came up with an idea to bring back the strength in her right leg. Dr Ramesh decided to make shoes for the elephant so that the injured leg could heal properly with the medicine applied under the foot. They made slippers so that they could remove them and treat the leg. According to reports, Kumari is getting healed and has started walking properly without being in pain. Dr Ramesh is a young vet working at Nagarahole Tiger Conservation Zone who responded to the case and prepared the slippers.

The vet is the native of Chatrada Hosahalli in Maddur taluk of Mandya district. He obtained his post-graduate degree in surgery and radiology at Hassan, according to the local media portal. He joined Government service in 2018 and started his first practice at Bannerghatta Biological Park. In August 2021, he was posted to the Nagarahole Tiger Reserve region and successfully fitted radio-collar to two male and two female wild elephants after capturing them. After the procedure, the elephants were driven back to the wild. He has been practising for five years now.

The doctor was also praised for the smooth sailing of the Dasara festival in Mysore Palace in 2021 by the people as he made sure that elephants were not scared by the loud noises and crowd during the procession.
