A senior citizen was crushed to death by a tanker that allegedly hit his car and then dragged him for some distance in Maharastra’s Navi Mumbai, police said on Sunday. The incident reportedly took place at around 2 pm on Saturday at a bridge in Tara village on Mumbai-Goa highway in Navi Mumbai.
Panvel taluka police on Saturday registered an FIR against the tanker driver under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act on the complaint of deceased’s wife.
The accused, who has been identified, is yet to be arrested.
As per the police, 60-year-old Srikant More, a resident of Khalapur in neighbouring Raigad district, was going with his wife in their car when the tanker rammed into their vehicle from behind.
When the man got down from his car to find out what happened and was talking to the tanker driver, the latter moved his vehicle, dragging the victim along with it to some distance, an official said quoting the woman’s complaint.
The tanker driver then allegedly pushed the man on the road and the victim got crushed to death under the vehicle.
The tanker driver then fled from the spot.
