Follow Us Rain stopped play in the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, September 10 with the Men in Blue having reached 147/2 in 24.1 overs.
Pakistan won the toss and invited India to bat. Team India got off to a brilliant start as openers Rohit Sharma (56 off 49) and Shubman Gill (58 off 52) added 121 for the first wicket. The duo was dismissed by Shadab Khan and Shaheen Afridi respectively.
India lost momentum after their openers were dismissed. When rain stopped play, Virat Kohli was batting on 8 off 16 and KL Rahul on 17 off 28.
Earlier, rain stayed away in Colombo and conditions were bright and sunny as Pakistan won the toss and decided to bowl first against India in the Super 4 match.
The match will be the third game of the Super 4 round. In the earlier two matches, Pakistan beat Bangladesh by seven wickets at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, while Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by 21 runs in Colombo on Saturday.
India and Pakistan are meeting in the ongoing Asia Cup for the second time on Sunday. The first clash between the teams at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on September 2 was marred by rain and ended up producing no result. The Men in Blue were the only team who got to bat.
Team India’s seasoned off-spinner has Ravichandran Ashwin shared a positive update about the weather in Colombo ahead of the India vs Pakistan match on Sunday. Taking to his X [formerly Twitter] account he wrote:
That’s as pretty a morning as one can get for an #INDvsPAK clash.

India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik also shared a post on X, asserting that the weather in Colombo is looking good for the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup match to go ahead. He wrote:
“The weather looks decent for #INDvPAK 🙌 Looking forward to a cracker of a game! 🤞🏻 #WeathermanDK 😜”
While the weather forecast might have been gloomy, the day began on a bright note. Journalists and fans shared pictures on X [formerly Twitter], informing that there had been no rain in Colombo in the morning.
Some also shared pictures of the bright sky with the sun out in Colombo around 10 am.
Earlier, things are not looking all that bright with regard to the weather forecast for the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match in Colombo on Sunday.
According to AccuWeather, it will be cloudy in Colombo during the day time with a couple of thunderstorms. There is a 90 percent probability of precipitation, while the cloud cover will be 94 percent.
In the afternoon, the prediction is for considerable clouds with showers and thunderstorms. The probability of precipitation is up to 98 percent. More showers and thunderstorms are predicted during the evening time as well.
In case, the India vs Pakistan Super 4 match cannot be completed on Sunday, a Reserve Day has been added specifically for the key clash. The match can thus continue on September 11 if needed. Earlier, only the Asia Cup 2023 final on September 17 was supposed to have a Reserve Day.
Unfortunately, the prediction for the Reserve Day is also not too positive, with rain and thunderstorms forecast on Monday as well.
