Hundreds of women took to the streets to protest against an alleged eviction drive against illegal land encroachment. While officials claim to have issued prior eviction notices, residents argued that they had no alternative housing options provided by the government, leaving them with nowhere to go.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government has assured to provide alternative arrangements to the affected people. However there is a section who wants to protest and the government will deal firmly with them.
