However, stocks such as GNA Axles, Penta Gold, Sanco Industries, FutureLifestyleFash and Orient Bell, touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 41 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 9 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, NTPC, ONGC, JSW Steel, Tata Steel and Maruti Suzuki were among top gainers during the day, while Cipla, HDFC Life, Dr. Reddys, UltraTech Cem. and Nestle India ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 555.75 points up at 65387.16.
Traders piled up positions in Telecommunications, Mining, Term Lending Institutions, Power and Defence sectors, while selling was witnessed in Banks, Irrigation & Allied Services, Petrochemicals, Building Materials and Electric/Electronics sectors during the day.
