However, stocks such as Shreeoswal Seeds, Jio Financial Servic, Penta Gold, Sadhana Nitro and Hotel Rugby, touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 17 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 33 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, BPCL, Asian Paints, IndusInd Bank, Infosys and Britannia were among top gainers during the day, while RIL, ONGC, Power Grid, JSW Steel and Grasim Inds. ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 180.96 points down at 65252.34.
Traders piled up positions in Telecommunications, Infrastructure, Paper, Sugar and Miscellaneous sectors, while selling was witnessed in Banks, Irrigation & Allied Services, Petrochemicals, Industrial Equipment and Agriculture/Horticulture/Livestock sectors during the day.
