    Home Secretary to explain new laws to MPs in 3-day meet

    The committee on home affairs will hold discussions for three days on the proposed laws replacing the colonial era Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860, Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), 1898, and Indian Evidence Act, 1872, with Union home secretary Ajay Bhalla giving presentations to members of Parliament from August 24-26, said officials.

    The committee on home affairs will hold discussions for three days on the proposed laws replacing the colonial era Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860, Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), 1898, and Indian Evidence Act, 1872, with Union home secretary Ajay Bhalla giving presentations to members of Parliament from August 24-26, said officials.

    The meetings are likely to be attended by 27 MPs who are part of the panel headed by BJP MP and former IPS officer, Brij Lal, they said.

    The initial discussions are being held to explain the provisions, clauses and sub-clauses of the bills, need for replacing the British era laws and changes introduced in the old IPC, CrPC and Evidence Act through Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Bill, 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) Bill, 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya (BS) Bill, 2023, respectively, according to officials.

    The bills were introduced by Union home minister Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha on August 11.
