The MeT office has issued an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall on Sunday and a yellow warning of heavy rains on Monday in Himachal Pradesh.
The Himachal Pradesh emergency operation centre has reported the closure of a collective 452 roads, with Mandi accounting for the highest count of 236, followed by Shimla with 59, and Bilaspur district with 40, effectively halting vehicular traffic.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday said that isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next two days.
In Northwest India, there is a forecast of light to moderate rainfall, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall likely over Himachal Pradesh from Sunday to August 14, over Uttarakhand from Sunday to August 17, over Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh from Sunday to August 14, over East Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, as per the bulletin issued by the weather agency.
In addition to this, isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday while isolated extremely heavy falls also likely over Uttarakhand on Sunday and August 14.
National Highway 205 (NH 205) was on Sunday blocked at Dakesh in the Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh due to a landslide, said authorities. They also said that two trucks and one light motor vehicle were damaged in the landslide.”NH 205 totally blocked at Dakesh due to a landslide.

Residents of Sunda village in Shimla district have demanded that they be resettled in safer locations since their houses have suffered considerable damage and some even developed cracks following intense rains last month. The villagers in the district’s Racholi panchayat area have been complaining that the relief provided by the state government following the cloudburst on July 25 was too inadequate.
Many people continue to live with their relatives while others are lodged in the village’s government school since their houses have become unsafe following the rain fury. “My house has been damaged and the government has given Rs 5,000 as relief which is too little. We want that the villagers severely affected by the natural calamity to be settled at a safe place,” said Japti Devi, a resident of Sunda village.

Two people died and 16 others are missing after a mudslide triggered by heavy rains occurred near the northern Chinese city of Xi’an, state media reported Saturday.

A flood alert has been issued by UP’s Gautam Budh Nagar district on Saturday as the water level in Yamuna and Hindon rivers is expected to rise again amid incessant rain in Uttarakhand. The advisory was issued after the weather department has forecast heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand over the next five days, according to a report by Hindustan Times.
“The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand. Thus, there is a possibility that the water level will again rise in rivers such as Yamuna, Sharda, Hindon and Ganga, among others”, HT quoted additional district magistrate (finance) Atul Kumar as saying.
“Residents and villagers residing in low-lying areas and close to the riverbanks of Yamuna and Hindon are requested to vacate the areas as a precautionary measure”, Kumar added.

Seven persons were killed while four injured in Chamba district on Friday when their vehicle fell into the Siul river after being hit by a landslide, prompting the formation of an inquiry board to probe the matter and prevent similar accidents in future, officials said.
The deceased include six police personnel who were from the 2nd Indian Reserve Battalion posted at the Chamba Border. They have been identified as Rakesh Gora, Praveen Tondon, Kamaljeet, Sachin, Abhishek and Lakshay Kumar, while the seventh deceased is Chandru Ram, a local resident, the police said.
Since the onset of monsoon in the hill state on June 24 till August 11, the death toll due to rain-related incidents and road accidents has reached 252, of which 41 persons died in 87 landslides and 107 died in road accidents, according to the state emergency operation centre.

Rescuers on Saturday pulled out two more bodies from the debris of the landslide which swept away three shops in Gaurikund on the way to Kedarnath on August 4, an official said.
The death toll in the tragedy has risen to seven while 16 people are still missing, Rudraprayag Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar said.
The bodies were identified as 25-year-old woman Anita Bohra and eight-year-old boy Jatil, the official said.

As per IMD, there is a forecast of light to moderate scattered and fairly widespread rainfall in northwest India till Sunday.
There’s a possibility of isolated heavy rainfall over Himachal Pradesh during this period, and over Uttarakhand from till August 15. Additionally, Punjab and Haryana could experience rainfall on Sunday, while west Uttar Pradesh might have rain on Sunday, and Monday. East Uttar Pradesh is also likely to witness rainfall on Sunday, it said.
In contrast, the rest of northwest India can expect subdued rainfall activity over the next seven days.
In east India, there’s a prediction of light to moderate fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall activity on Sunday. “This is likely over areas like Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim. Gangetic West Bengal is expected to experience such activity on Sunday, and Jharkhand on Sunday as well,” said the IMD.
In Northeast India, there’s a forecast of light to moderate fairly widespread rainfall, including isolated heavy rainfall activity till August 15.
In central, west, and south India, subdued rainfall activity is likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, as well as Kerala and Mahe next few days. Coastal Andhra Pradesh can anticipate hot and humid weather today.
