Here are the winning numbers for Friday night's Mega Millions drawing for the $1.35 billion jackpot
Officials increased the size of Friday night's Mega Million jackpot to an estimated $1.35 billion, making it tied for the fourth-largest lottery prize in U.S history.
The winning numbers for Friday's drawing were: 11, 30, 45, 52, 56, and Megaball 20, with a Megaplier of 2X.
So far, players have purchased more than 4.1 million tickets for tonight’s drawing at retailers throughout Michigan, with more than 2.6 million of those tickets being bought today. On average, players have purchased about 161,000 Mega Millions tickets per hour or 2,700 tickets per minute at retailers today.
If a player wins tonight’s Mega Millions jackpot, it would be the second largest Mega Millions jackpot ever won. The current record Mega Millions jackpot is $1.537 billion, won by a South Carolina player in October 2018. The Mega Millions jackpot was last won in April, when one ticket purchased in New York matched the five white balls and Mega ball to win a $20 million jackpot.
The Mega Millions jackpot was last won in Michigan in January 2021 by an Oakland County lottery club. The club won a $1.05 billion Mega Millions jackpot. That jackpot was the largest ever won in Michigan and the eighth largest in U.S. lottery history.
The growing Mega Millions jackpot is providing a boost to the state School Aid Fund and local businesses. For every $1 spent on Lottery roughly 63 cents goes to prizes, 25 cents goes to the School Aid Fund, 9 cents goes to retailer and vendor commissions, and 3 cents is used for Lottery operations.
Lottery retailers earn a 6% commission on all Lottery sales, and a 2% cashing commission on all prizes players redeem at their location. If a Michigan retailer sells the jackpot winning ticket for tonight’s Mega Millions drawing, they will receive a $50,000 bonus commission.
Last year, the Lottery provided $1.248 billion to the School Aid Fund. The Lottery is on pace to contribute more than $1 billon to the School Aid Fund for the fifth-straight year. Since it began in 1972, the Lottery has provided more than $27 billion to support public education in Michigan.
There have been 30 straight drawings since the last time someone won the game's jackpot on April 18. The prize has steadily grown to tie with a Mega Millions jackpot won in January.
The jackpot is so hard to win because of the 1-in-302.6 million odds of matching the numbers on five white balls and a separate mega ball. The odds are better to win smaller prizes, which start at $2.
The $1.35 billion prize is for a sole winner paid over 30 years through an annuity. Those who opt for a lump sum payout would get an estimated $659.5 million.
A big slice of those winnings would go toward federal taxes, and many states also tax lottery payouts.
Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
