Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 0.32%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Thursday.

Shares of MRF(up 4.27 per cent), Sona BLW Precision Forgings(up 1.6 per cent), Eicher Motors(up 1.41 per cent), Balkrishna Industries(up 0.36 per cent) and Ashok Leyland(up 0.36 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, Hero MotoCorp(down 1.37 per cent), TVS Motor Company(down 1.2 per cent), Maruti Suzuki(down 1.14 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra(down 1.09 per cent) and Tata Motors(down 0.59 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Auto index closed 0.32 per cent down at 15379.8.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 144.9 points at 19381.65, while the BSE Sensex stood down 542.1 points at 65240.68.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 11 ended in the green, while 39 closed in the red.

Shares of Indian Railway Fin, Reliance Power, Vedanta, Zomato and Suzlon Energy were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Prakash Pipes, KSB, Jay Jalaram Tech, Indian Railway Fin and MPS Ltd hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while ASL Industries, SMVD Poly Pack, Sintex Plastics Tech, Brookfield India Rea and UPL hit their fresh 52-week lows.
