Chesterfield Township has issued a boil water alert for residents after a main break in neighboring Macomb Township.

"Do not drink the water without boiling it first," officials said in a 6:40 a.m. post on the community's official Facebook page. "A large water main break was discovered in Macomb Township.

"Chesterfield Department of Public Services crews have already been called in and are working diligently on solutions to reroute water to our community."

Located between and 26 Mile Road on Anchor Bay in northern Macomb County, Chesterfield Township has an estimated population of more than 45,000, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Meanwhile, officials for the city of Rochester in Oakland County also have issued a boil water alert for residents on its east side due to low water pressure.

"Full pressure should be restored in the next few hours but the boil water alert will last for at least 48 hours," they said.
