Summary

  • High Tide does not grow cannabis and instead sells it as a loss leader; their discount model places downward pressure on price.
  • The company has vertically integrated the production of smoking accessories and currently owns 3 of the top 5 cannabis accessory websites by revenue.
  • They have been capturing additional market share at a rate slightly under 1% per quarter and currently control roughly 9.5% of the Canadian market.
  • With a forward EV/Sales of 0.37x, and forward EV/EBITDA of 6.91x, I presently consider the company undervalued.
  • I currently consider High Tide a Strong Buy.

Thesis

The cannabis sector has a history of euphoria-driven rallies that leave fundamentals behind and take even unprofitable companies to insane valuations. In early 2021, I initially set out with the mission of researching the best players

I am an Electromechanical Engineer. I have six degrees and teach Circuit Analysis for a living. I have been paying attention to markets since the late 1990's. I began taking classes on economics when I was 15, and was a business and economics major my freshman year. If I hadn't fallen in love with the Engineering classes I was taking as electives, I would probably have followed up on my dream of running my own small business.I am a value investor and have studied the greats (Benjamin Graham, Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, Peter Lynch, ect), but my personal investing style is most closely aligned with Mohnish Pabrai. Because I have been obsessed with strategy games and Game Theory since childhood, I tend to evaluate companies based on the quality and number of edges they have collected vs their peers, and how well I expect their strategy to perform in the everchanging meta. I am drawn to innovation, typically have a long timeframe outlook, and am always hunting for potential multibaggers.Anyone wanting to inquire about my efficacy is welcome to check my ratings on Tipranks.

Dude, APPRECIATE your enthusiasm and the "STRONG" stuff but

CGC is about to go bankrupt

so WHY would anyone invest in Canada

when we know that the companies are going to be bankrupt

like CGC, one after the other :-(

IF HITI is selling at a loss, what is this doing to the money

going to the people who do grow:

are they even getting paid :-(

Canada had their chance and they blew it

and their HEMP MONOPOLY means that Canada is

TOTALLY SCREWED until and if/when that HEMP monopoly is gone

because the BOOTLEG market is COMPLETELY SERVICED

by the "informal" market when/if necessary :-)

If the Canada market is DESTROYING MORE THAN THEY SELL then

the ENTIRE INDUSTRY is uninvestible

UNTIL they have licenses FOR THE WHOLE PLANT

and that means GETTING RID OF THE HEMP MONOPOLY :-)

That HEMP MONOPOLY IS KILLING THE FUTURE OF CANADA :-(

The Canadian companies do NOT have a market to sell to

because they destroy more than they sell :-)

The BOOTLEG is BOTTLENECKED genetically

- DOGGASCAKE -

and, as a result, trying to add MORE AND MORE flowers

only adds the SAME THINGS :-(

To have a chance to win,

these companies NEED TO SELL THE WHOLE PLANT:

THCs +
CBDs +
CBGs +
CBCs +
CBDVs +
THCVs = "salad bar"/Polyculture:

THOUSANDS OF YEARS of the medicinal application of the plant

SAYS THE WHOLE PLANT WINS and

the BOOTLEG will NOT :-)

These companies NEED MORE REVENUE STREAMS

and that comes with WHOLE PLANT AND THAT MEANS

THE HEMP MONOPOLY MUST END or Canada is totally screwed:

in the USA, we are ADVANCING BECAUSE

we have wonderful HEMP FARMERS

who are do MEANINGFUL Natural Breeding :-)

Polyculture DEFEATS monoculture:

BRING ON THE HEMP CROSSES and the HEMP FLOWERS

or DIE :-(

If CEOs DO NOT SEE THIS YET,

then their companies are going to be defeated =

WHOLE PLANT is going to win and is going to DEFEAT

the monoculture Bootleg :-)

Some of your companies, Hoss,

are doing POP UP FLASH SALES in Canada =

y'all NEED HEMP to survive :-)

Even the OG growers in the USA

are bringing back flowers from the '90's and OTHER ERAS because

DOGGASCAKE is "played out" :-(

[I don't work for any company and I don't get a commission]

www.youtube.com/...

Appreciate you, Man, but WITHOUT HEMP, Canada is DONE

because in the USA We the Patients have

"chemical free" Cannabis, Hemp, and Weed

so we'll never need more Bootleg

which means the USA will NEVER BE A MARKET

for Canadian cannabis :-(

There will NEVER be a "price war" between the USA and Canada

BECAUSE We the Patients can add

1 gram of medicinal THC kief to ONE OUNCE OF CBD/CBG HEMP

and our PRICE GOES DOWN =

Man, We the Patients KNOW HOW TO GET

INEXPENSIVE "clean" medicine and it won't be from Canada:

you're DREAMING and it is NOT Blue Dream :-)

That was an education thank you.

Speaking of learning, what would you recommend to someone who wants to learn how to evaluate competitors in a market?
Blake Downer profile picture
@thumbsoup I use a combination of Weighted Analysis and Nash Equilibria. It's actually a topic I was thinking I would cover in detail (with examples) once I hit enough subscribers that Seeking Alpha will let me start my own monthly paid subscription service. Basically, any experienced investor can hand out hot tips and suggest good investing books, but almost no uses Game Theory to evaluate competitiveness.

I appreciate this article. I've been in HITI long enough to be down significantly but I hold and wait. I wasn't wrong but I was very early and I'm planning to just wait it out. My prediction has been and continues to be the Raj will become the best known person in this industry.
