Since Meta introduced Threads as an alternative to Twitter, it has gained an estimated 114 million users. As the user base continues to grow, the platform is making necessary changes to address challenges and meet user needs. One recent change is the implementation of "Rate Limits" to combat spam attacks.
Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, stated that they will tighten rate limits in response to the increasing spam attacks.

What are rate limits?
Rate limits determine the maximum number of requests allowed per API endpoint within a specific time frame, usually 15 minutes. For example, if the rate limit for an endpoint is 900 requests per 15 minutes, users can make up to 900 requests within that time period.
Twitter's rate limits
Elon Musk introduced rate limits on Twitter in July to tackle issues like data scraping and system manipulation. This means users have a limit on the number of tweets they can see each day.
Initially, verified accounts could read up to 6,000 posts per day, which has now increased to 15,000 posts. Unverified accounts can read 600 posts, and new unverified accounts could read 300 posts. These limits have eventually been adjusted to 1,000 and 10,000, respectively. Once the limit is reached, users receive a message stating, "Rate limit exceeded."
It was after Twitter announced rate limits that Meta seized the opportunity to introduce Threads as its competing micro-blogging platform. With rapid growth in a short period, Mark Zuckerberg expressed great optimism about the platform's future and its positive trajectory.
