Jul. 11, 2023 3:16 PM ETEthereum USD (ETH-USD)PAXG-USD3 Comments

Summary

  • BlackRock CEO Larry Fink sees a world where assets and securities are tokenized.
  • Ethereum is already home to tokenized real world assets like Gold and other security tokens.
  • ERC-4337 allows for "account abstraction" on Ethereum. This would be a big departure from the poor UE currently facing crypto networks.
  • BlockChain Reaction members get exclusive access to our real-world portfolio. See all our investments here »

i’m hoping larry fink is one of the initial astronauts to go to mars.

so instead of buying GLD in my brokerage account i buy a token on gold that lives in the ether. one day the token disappears. who do i call? ghostbusters?

larry fink should shut up and stop trying to disrupt. he should stick to what he is good at: manipulating markets to rip off the public.

I think the challenge for ETH to be the settlement mechanism for security token transactions are the gas costs on L1. Security tokens are in essence a form of NFT (when considered as a class of investors) and NFTs didn't really take off, ignoring the initial CryptoKitties mania (which exposed flaws in Ethereum in terms of its ability to support huge spikes in demand for confirmations) until a viable L2 solution, Polygon, emerged and lower gas cost alternatives like Solana achieved acceptance. If you look at the trading costs for equities and other publicly traded securities, they've been driven down to zero in many cases. They do suffer from slower settlement times vs. blockchains, but do most users care?

As someone affiliated with a security token infrastructure company, I'm not seeing as much interest in tokenizing private equity (ie. private placements in venture and other earlier stage companies) yet. There has been significant interest in real estate and art, which is great to see. I do hope more private companies take the leap of faith to tokenize their cap tables to provide better liquidity for their investors (and consequently experience a reduction in their cost of capital as the illiquidity discount shrinks).

@ksrinivasan what a bunch of blahblahblah. “leap of faith”?

why take any leaps that people neither trust nor understand?

the public views sam bankman fried as the poster child for the leap of faith all the disrupters with dogs in the fight are trying to foist on us.
