Stock market update: Nifty Auto index advances 0.29%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a positive note on Friday.

Shares of Tata Motors(up 2.9 per cent), Sona BLW Precision Forgings(up 2.17 per cent), Bosch(up 1.16 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra(up 0.99 per cent) and TVS Motor Company(up 0.57 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, Balkrishna Industries(down 2.24 per cent), Bajaj Auto(down 1.7 per cent), Bharat Forge(down 1.46 per cent), Eicher Motors(down 1.16 per cent) and Ashok Leyland(down 1.0 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Auto index closed 0.29 per cent up at 15498.85.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 165.5 points at 19331.8, while the BSE Sensex stood down 505.19 points at 65280.45.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 7 ended in the green, while 43 closed in the red.

Shares of Suzlon Energy, YES Bank, Reliance Power, PNB and Bank of Maharashtra were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of ideaForge Technology, Olectra Greentech, Orient Abrasive, Talbros Auto and Repro India hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while KKV Agro Powers Ltd., Viji Finance, Bombay Metrics Suppl, Rachana Infrastructu and Jainam Ferro Alloys hit their fresh 52-week lows.
