Earthquake of 4.7 magnitude jolts Ladakh's Kargil

An earthquake 4.7 magnitude on the Richter Scale hit North of Kargil in Laddakh, National Center for Seismology (NCS) informed on 4 July. As per the NCS, the location of the earthquake was 401km North of Kargil while the depth was 150 km.
In a tweet, the NCS wrote, “Earthquake of Magnitude:4.7, Occurred on 04-07-2023, 07:38:12 IST, Lat: 38.12 & Long: 76.81, Depth: 150 Km ,Location: 401km N of Kargil, Laddakh, India"
National Center for Seismology (NCS) is the nodal agency of the Government of India for monitoring of earthquake activity in the country.
Earlier on 18 June, three earthquake had hit ladakh in 24 hours. An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 on the Richter scale had hit 279 kilometres northeast of the Leh district of Ladakh on 18 June. It occurred at 8.28 am at a depth of 10 km. Prior to that, in the wee hours, an earthquake of magnitude 4.1 on the Richter scale had hit 295 kilometres northeast of the Leh district of Ladakh on 18 June. On 17 June, an earthquake of magnitude 4.5 on the Richter scale had hit Ladakh at 9.44 pm.
