Tesla has changed the standard, freely included color for its Model 3 and Model Y cars to Midnight Silver.

The change, spotted by Electrek(opens in a new tab), comes after more than three years of White being the standard color for Model 3 and Y (Tesla made the switch from Black back in 2019).

The switch to Midnight Silver as the standard color is important, as it comes free of charge. Other colors come at a price: Pearl White Multi-Coat and Deep Blue Metallic are now $1,000, Solid Black costs $1,500, while Red Multi-Coat will set you back $2,000.

Hopefully, this will reduce the number of white Teslas on the roads.

The options listed above are the same for the Model 3 and the Model Y. For Tesla’s Model S and Model X, the standard color is still Pearl White Multi-Coat.

The change will likely be a welcome one even for non-Tesla owners, as it’s likely to introduce more variety for the Model 3 and Model Y, which are among the best-selling cars today and are very often seen in white on the roads.

Last week, Tesla announced(opens in a new tab) it sold nearly 450,000 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in the second quarter of 2023. The company plans to deliver a total of 1.8 million cars this year.
