Mumbai rains: Heavy rain leads to 2 deaths, traffic snarls in many areas. More showers expected today
2 min read 01 Jul 2023, 08:29 AM ISTHeavy rains in Mumbai have resulted in the deaths of two people, bringing the total to 11 in the past five days. The city has also received a significant amount of rainfall in a short period of time, causing traffic disruptions and waterlogging in various areas.

Heavy rains lashed many parts of Mumbai on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of two people. The two people died in Mumbai's Govandi area in the afternoon and their bodies were fished out by fire brigade and police personnel.
According to a Mid-day report, incidents caused by heavy rains in Mumbai have led to the death of 11 people in just 5 days. The BMC has received 434 complaints of tree-fall incidents this year, most of them since last Saturday. Meanwhile, the civic body had not recorded any deaths related to tree-fall incidents last year.
According to reports, Chembur received 80.04 mm of rain on Saturday, while Vikhroli received 79.76 mm, Sion 61.98 mm, Ghatkopar 61.68 mm and Matunga 61.25 mm. The eastern suburbs of Mumbai received 69.86 mm of rain, while the western suburbs received 73.57 mm.
According to IMD, Mumbai received 95 percent of its rainfall till June 30 in just 6 days between June 24 and 29. The metropolis received 395 mm of rain till June 30, of which 371.4 mm fell between June 24 and 29. The June normal for south Mumbai's Colaba observatory in is 542.3 mm while the city is reported to have witnessed 549.6mm in the whole month with heavy rainfall on the last day of the month.
According to news agency PTI, Mumbai police had to divert traffic to SV road after Andheri subway got flooded. Furthermore, vehicular movement in BD road was slow in areas like Mahalaxmi Temple, Asalpha, Sakinaka junction, and Gaffar Khan Road Near Worli Sealink.
Similar traffic-related issues were witnessed in areas like Kurla, Santacruz and SV road. Moreover, Dadar TT, Sion Road, Tilak Nagar and Dahisar subway witnessed waterlogging on Saturday.
Several netizens took to Twitter to ask traffic police for updates, some of them mentioning about traffic snarls near Shreyas cinema in Ghatkopar, on Link Road from Bangur Nagar in Goregaon to Mith Chowki in Malad as well as Pantnagar.
