Some residents opposed their presence, leading to tensions and protests. The society management issued a notice forbidding the slaughter of the goats in an attempt to defuse the conflict.

On the occasion of Bakrid 2023, a residential society in Mumbai's Mira Road area found itself embroiled in a heated dispute after a controversial incident involving the entry of goats onto the premises. The issue divided residents, with some strongly opposing the presence of the animals. The matter took an unexpected turn when an official notice was issued, explicitly forbidding the slaughter of the goats.
The incident occurred in the JP Infra society, where a family had acquired two goats for the upcoming Eid al-Adha, popularly known as Bakrid or Bakra Eid. However, the decision did not sit well with certain residents, leading to a commotion and escalating tensions between the opposing factions.
In an attempt to defuse the mounting conflict, the society management posted a notice, explicitly prohibiting the slaughter of the goats and urging residents to respect their neighbours' rights. The notice emphasised the importance of maintaining a harmonious living environment and called on all parties involved to seek a peaceful resolution.
Despite the notice, tensions escalated further when the society management removed the goats from the society's elevator. This action angered residents who supported the presence of the animals, prompting them to stage a protest.
They demanded the involvement of law enforcement authorities, asserting that they should be allowed to keep animals as pets as long as it didn't violate any regulations or disturb their neighbours.
As tensions continued to rise, the agitated residents called for immediate police intervention. They believed that the presence of law enforcement officials would help restore order, resolve the dispute and ensure the safety of all residents involved.
