Summary

  • The dust is beginning to settle after the recent launch of Apple’s Vision Pro with different views about the growth potential in this segment.
  • We have heard about the VR/AR efforts of Apple for over 8 years and is likely that the eventual impact on Apple’s bottom line will not match the hype.
  • The bill of material for Vision Pro is over $1500 which shows the staggering cost to build this device and the impact on margins.
  • Apple has a poor record of competing with US-based tech giants like Amazon and Google in segments like home devices, smart speakers, music streaming, video streaming and others.

I should also say I'd encourage people to watch closely developments in the Vision Pro. It would not surprise me if either the Company or a smart developer is looking at this unit as a way to provide early diagnosis of eye disease/problems.

The YTD chart on this stock is pretty epic. I agree - I would not initiate a position here at all-time highs. Someday, you'll probably have a chance to add at a lower price. The question is will it be a lower price brought on by a typical retracement of a gigantic gain, or will it be brought on by economic problems, market meltdowns, etc.

META and Apple are worlds apart in VR/AR. First, rarely has Apple released a product that had no pre-existing competition. Typically, Apple releases products that are the result of superior insight into UX along with gobs of "Apple" innovation.

It seems that it will be far more successful for Apple to release subsequent less-costly VR/AR products than for META to effectively add the leading and refined capabilities that VisionPro has. Apple designs some of the most capable and advanced silicon in the consumer space.

Hardware & Software are at the heart of each Apple product. With META you have a minuscule revenue stream from hardware. META has a completely different philosophy about releasing anything, whereas Apple tends to release products that have been thought-through with more foresight...
