Delhi International Airport Ltd on Monday announced a new Self Baggage Drop (SBD) facility for domestic passengers at the Terminal 3 of the airport. The operator claims that the new SBD facility will reduce the wait time for passengers at the airport by 15-20 minutes.

The SBD facility is currently only available to domestic passengers of Indigo Airlines. However, other airlines are expected to allow their passengers to use of SBD facility soon. Furthermore, the facility will be made available for international passengers after securing mandatory approvals.

"While currently, passengers travelling IndiGo will be able to use the facility, five other airlines, including Air India, Vistara, Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and British Airways, are likely to allow usage of self-baggage drop for their passengers in the near future," DIAL clarified in a release on Monday

"DIAL has been working relentlessly towards maximising passenger experience at the Delhi airport through various digitisation and automation initiatives. The Self-Baggage Drop facility aims to make the passengers self-reliant while at the same time reduce the time taken for baggage processing significantly...," DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar added

How to use SBD facility at Delhi Airport Terminal 3?

Passengers can avail the new SBD facility at Delhi Airport through a two-step process. In the first step, they will have to take their boarding passes from the Self Check-In kiosk and tag their baggage.

Passengers will have to scan their boarding passes and declare that there is luggage is free of prohibited items at the SBD facility. They will then load their baggage onto the designated belt and after the completion of the process, luggage will be transferred to the aircraft.

However, if the check-in baggage is above the capacity allowed by the airline then it will not be accepted by the machine while airline staff will present near the SBD facility to help the passengers.
