ICC World Cup 2023 is set to begin on 5 October in different venues of India with Team India fans waiting eagerly for the India vs Pakistan faceoff on 15 October at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. As the list of the venues of ICC World Cup 2023 was released, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed his disappointment with the venues as Thiruvananthapuram's SportsHub was missing from the list. Shashi Tharoor observed that Ahmedabad was becoming the cricket capital of the country.

“Disappointed to see that Thiruvananthapuram's #SportsHub, hailed by many as the best cricket stadium in India, is missing from the #WorldCup2023 fixture list. Ahmedabad is becoming the new cricket capital of the country, but could a match or two not have been allotted to Kerala?," Congress MP Shashi Tharoor tweeted.

The ICC World Cup 2023 schedule drew similar reaction by Punjab sports minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer who objected to Mohali cricket stadium missing from the list of venues. "The exclusion of Punjab's Mohali from the list of host cities for the tournament was due to political interference. Punjab government will raise this issue with BCCI," Hayer says.

ICC World Cup 2023 schedule delayed

The announcement of the ICC World Cup 2023 schedule was delayed this year as Pakistan was raising several objections over the issue of traveling to India for the World Cup. Recently, BCCI turned down Pakistan's request for change in venues and Pakistan Cricket Board is also witnessing a leadership change.

Veteran Team India opener Virender Sehwag expects some exceptional performances from the Indian cricket team and spoke on the India vs Pakistan match during the ICC World Cup 2011 semi-finals.

"When we reached the dressing room Sachin Tendulkar said that we have never lost against Pakistan and we need to do the same today. Play with your hearts, and give 100 percent efforts. The results will come, even if we lose it won't be a big deal, the big deal is reaching this stage," Virender Sehwag said

“I remember that speech and after that when we went to play we defeated Pakistan. I think they don't perform well under pressure, like we do. In 90s they played well under pressure, but after 2000 things have changed," he added.
