Amid heavy downpour in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district, Kedarnath Yatra has been stopped till next orders at Sonprayag, said Rudraprayag District Magistrate Mayur Dixit on Sunday.
It has been raining cats and dogs in the area lying between Gaurikund to Kedarnath since morning due to which the pilgrim tour has been suspended for a while, said District Disaster Management Authority official, Nandan Singh Rajwar.
As the state is witnessing heavy rainfall in several parts, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami reached disaster management control room to take a note of the rescue services.
Till 8 am, around 5828 pilgrims began their journey to Kedarnath from Sonprayag. Other than the pilgrim site, several other parts of the state are also witnessing damage due to heavy rainfall and flooding.
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami made a surprise inspection of the State Disaster Management Control Room located at the Secretariat. During his visit, he took note of the information related to the situation of heavy rainfall in the sate got information regarding the situation of heavy rains in the state.
He also took note of the situation of the present weather condition, rain situation, water-logging and damages due to rain in the state.
Heavy rainfall in last 24 hours in Uttarakhand
In last twenty four hours, Haridwar has received 78 mm of rainfall, followed by Dehradun (33.2) and Uttarkashi (27.7), reported India Meteorological Department.
CM Dhami instructed the officers to be prepared for the continuation of heavy rainfall in the regions that are already witnessing heavy rainfall.
"Maintain mutual communication and coordination with all those districts. So that emergency situations can be dealt with in time. He instructed the officers to always be in alert mode for disaster relief and rescue operations, CM Dhami said.
He also asked the officials to alert people living near rivers and drains across the state.

He also asked officials to make preparations and be ready in case a situation of rehabilitation of people arises due to heavy rainfall.
"In case of rehabilitating the people, there should be an adequate number of night shelters and relief materials in each district. This should also be taken special care of," he added.
He also ordered to maintain proper arrangements for drainage in case of water logging. "JCB machines should also be arranged in advance at sensitive places from the point of view of the disaster," CM Dhami added.
To ensure health services for people amid rainfall, Uttarakhand CM asked health, police and SDRF personnel to stay on alert.
As Kedarnath Yatra was stopped due to rain, CM Dhami inquired about the number of pilgrims in the Char Dhams and the present condition of the Char Dhams amidst heavy rains.
He also took cognisance of the situation by talking to District Magistrate Haridwar, District Magistrate Pithoragarh, and Chamoli over the phone.
