Traffic curbs on Kantatoli Rd to facilitate flyover construction
Ranchi: The Ranchi traffic police have prohibited the movement of all kinds of vehicles between Kantatoli Chowk and Siromtoli between 10 pm and 6 am to facilitate the advanced stages of construction of the 2.4-km long Kantatoli flyover project.
The traffic ban during these hours was notified by the office of Ranchi traffic SP HB Jama on Thursday evening. The ban came into effect from Friday night.
“Upon receiving requests from the company engaged in the construction of Kantatoli flyover project, the entry of all kinds of vehicles on Kantatoli Road will remain banned between 10 pm and 6 am till the launching work is complete,” the notification read.
Officials of the Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (JUIDCO) said an application was recently submitted to the traffic police to ensure the blockade for carrying out its planned launching work.
Launching girders are giant design and built machines which are used in bridge construction. “The launching girder will be set up on pier caps atop the pillars. The girder will then be used to lift, position, and place the pre-cast segment boxes from one pier to another pier,” a JUIDCO official told TOI on Friday.
The pre-cast segment boxes are being manufactured at a factory near Durga Soren Chowk in Namkum. “The road will be closed for bringing the girder and the pre-cast segment boxes from the factory using specialized, twin-engine propelled heavy trailers,” the official added.

As many as 486 pre-cast segment boxes will be set up in the 2.4-km long flyover. When joined together, these boxes will shape into the flyover’s road. JUIDCO officials estimate that the traffic ban at night hours needs to be carried out till December this year to ensure timely completion of the project within its deadline of April, 2024.
While the Kantatoli Road will remain closed between 10 pm and 6 pm, exemptions will be provided to the residents living in and around Kantatoli Chowk.
“Vehicles plying through Khelgaon and Kantatoli will have to take a detour through Khelgaon-Tantisilwai-Durga Soren Chowk and Namkum. Likewise, buses coming to Khadgarha stand from Durga Soren Chowk will only be allowed to enter through the exit route of the bus stand,” the notification read.
The road blockade is expected to inconvenience the passengers who will need to board late night trains and buses at Ranchi railway station and Kantatoli bus stand.
Meanwhile, the JUIDCO on Friday urged the Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) officials to remove their electricity poles, transformers, overhead wires and utilities from Kantatoli, Bahu Bazar and Shanti Nagar in Kokar as they posed hindrances to the timely completion of the ongoing Kantatoli flyover project.
“JUIDCO’s project director Arvind Kumar Mishra said the obstructions were required to be removed to ensure timely completion of the project. JBVNL officials assured Mishra that the poles, transformers and overhead wires would be removed by end of this month,” a statement issued by JUIDCO in the evening read.
