ULHASNAGAR: Around 15 minutes of rain in Ulhasnagar on Friday exposed the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation's (UMC) claims about cleaning drainage lines as the city witnessed waterlogging at several places.
Due to waterlogging, local people had to face a lot of problems as the garbage was seen floating.
Residents of Gol Maidan, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar and some other parts of the city complained about waterlogging and garbage on the roadside.
Ahead of monsoon, several people and opposition leaders had targeting UMC for not cleaning the drainage line properly.
"If 15 minutes of normal rain creates such problems, than what will happen when it will rain heavily. A delegation of MNS leaders will meet UMC commissioner demanding him to blacklist contractor and will also ask to stop payment of those who did not clean the drainage line properly," said Sanjay Ghuge, MNS leader from Ulhasnagar.
Due to few minutes rain, entire posh GOI Maidan area were filled with water causing inconvenience to citizens, said ex-corporator Kumari Narendra Thakur, adding, "It shows UMC has not done
drainage cleaning work properly."
When asked, Chayya Dangale, Public Relation Officer of UMC said, "Before monsoon, so far we have cleaned 90 per cent of drainage line. However, if drainages at some places are not cleaned properly by contractor, then the UMC chief will instruct the contractor and get the drainage line cleaned."
