PURULIA: A Congress panchayat poll candidate was among two persons arrested for the murder of a Trinamool Congress leader, Dhananjay Choubey, in Bengal's Purulia district on Thursday, reports Tanuja Singh Deo. Choubey, who owned a bakery, was shot dead at the party office in Adra town of Purulia at around 7:30pm. He was the party's town president and also in-charge of Beko and Gaganabad village panchayats of Kashipur and Arra region of Raghunathpur Block I.
Congress candidate Arshad Hossain and party worker N D Jamal were arrested for the murder and remanded in 13-day police custody by a Raghunathpur court on Friday. Choubey's security guard Shekhar Das also received bullet injuries and is undergoing treatment at a Durgapur hospital.
After the shooting, IG (Bankura) Bharatlal Meena ordered 109 check posts to be put up across Adra. The duo were arrested at 2am.
