HYDERABAD: Telangana municipal administration minister KT Rama Rao urged union urban development minister Hardeep Singh Puri to approve Phase II of Hyderabad metro rail project from BHEL to Lakdikapul, about 26 km and extension of metro corridor from Nagole to L B Nagar covering a distance of about 5km.
He also sought financial assistance to provide Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) in Kokapet area, on the western part of Hyderabad, which is fast developing as the new Central Business District (CBD). While, the preliminary estimates of the MRTS is Rs 3,050 crore, the minister appealed for a financial contribution of Rs 450 crore from the Centre.
KTR who is in Delhi, met the Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Saturday and sought for the Centre’s support for the public transport, road network and sanitation management in Telangana. He also urged the Union minister to bring a national rural employment guarantee scheme for urban poor.
On improving public transportation and the road network, the municipal minister said that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project was already submitted by the state government and would clarify the doubts.
About extending missing link roads connectivity up to Outer Ring Road, KTR also said that a total 104 additional corridors are identified to be taken up with an estimated amount of Rs 2,400 crore. He urged the central government to extend support through a contribution of Rs 800 crore.
Further improving cleanliness and waste management in the state, the municipal minister appealed to Hardeep Singh Puri for Centre’s financial support for scientific treatment and disposal of legacy leachate and other resources for waste management including procurement of tertiary vehicles with closed containers and development of modern transfer stations.
KTR said that it would take Rs 3,722 crore for three Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) clusters under the proposed Sanitation Project - Development of Sewer Network Infrastructure for Liquid Waste Collection at Hyderabad Urban Agglomeration (HUA). He appealed to the Centre to sanction 20% of the project cost Rs 744 crore.
Hardeep Singh Puri expressed admiration for the sanitation hub initiative of the Telangana government. He acknowledged that the sanitation hub, with its creative concepts, will address numerous challenges in the development of municipalities. The Union minister asked the state government to share its innovative ideas and provide details at an upcoming meeting organized by his ministry.
