Air Marshal Wagle to get seva medal in Delhi on Tue
Margao: Air Marshal Sandesh Prabhakar Wagle (retd) who was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, on the occasion of Republic Day 2023 will be presented the award on June 27 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Delhi.
The PVSM is awarded in recognition of peace-time service to the nation of the most exceptional order. According to the President of India notification No. 106-Pres/2004, the PVSM is placed below the Bharat Ratna, Param Vir Chakra, Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan, and is higher in precedence than the Maha Vir Chakra and the Padma Shri.
Wagle superannuated from Indian Air Force (IAF) in November 2022, following which he returned to settle down in his hometown, Margao.
He had joined the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, in December 1980. His wife, Group Captain Jiveksha Wagle, also from Margao, is a doctor of 1985 batch of Goa Medical College. She too served in the IAF and retired earlier this year after serving the nation for more than 30 years.
Wagle participated in the operations in the Siachen Glacier and Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) in Sri Lanka. He was the Commanding Officer of the premier Attack Helicopter Squadron of the IAF in the western sector and also in UN operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo, for which he was awarded the Vayu Sena Medal by the President of India.
Wagle also commanded Air Force Station at Leh, the highest operational airfield in India, which defended the country against both China and Pakistan.

On promotion to the rank of Air Marshal, he rose to the post of the Deputy Chief of Defence Staff and served as the deputy to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat and to the present CDS, General Anil Chauhan.
