Bikaner Dalit girl’s rape, murder: Two, including a cop, held
Jaipur: The Bikaner police, while agreeing to the family demands of the Dalit girl who was allegedly gang-raped and murdered on Tuesday, arrested constable Manoj Kumar, along with one another accused, on Friday.
Kumar had already been terminated from the police service late Thursday night. The constable was among those accused of gang-rape and murder of the girl, but the police arrested him for harbouring main accused Dinesh Bishnoi, and not for rape or murder. The second person has been arrested for arranging vehicle for Bishnoi, who is still at large.
Former circle inspector of the Khajuwala police station Arvind Singh Shekhawat was suspended for allegedly patronising Bishnoi, while another constable Bhagirath Saharan had already been suspended on the same charge. Three more persons suspected of helping Bishnoi flee after the crime were detained for interrogation.
As the police met the demands, the family of the 21-year-old woman finally cremated her body on Friday.
Bikaner police’s senior officers assured the girl’s family that all policemen who have worked for more than 2 years at the Khajuwala police station would be transferred out and the remaining accused would be arrested soon. Bikaner SP Tejaswini Gautam told TOI, “Constable Kumar has been terminated from the service and arrested because he helped Bishnoi flee from the hospital after they came to know that the girl has died. Rakesh, a driver, who provided vehicle to Bishnoi has also been arrested. Once Bishnoi is arrested, role of Kumar and Saharan in the rape and murder would also be probed.” She added, “Three more persons are in our custody for interrogation.”

In another development, police received the post-mortem report of the deceased girl. “As per the post-mortem report, the cause of death was profuse bleeding from private part. No injury marks were found on the body,” said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity.
IGP Om Prakash, who held talks with the family members, said, “A contractual job to kin of the girl and compensation as per government norms would be provided.”
