June 30 deadline set for ‘Majhi Bus’ applications
Panaji: Private bus operators have until the end of this month to empanel their vehicles. Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTC) has extended the deadline for receiving applications under the ‘Majhi Bus Scheme’ to June 30 following requests from some bus owners from Ponda and Quepem.
“The deadline which was earlier June 26 has been extended by five days to facilitate more bus operators to apply for the scheme,” KTC general manager Sanjay Ghate said. He added that the grievances and issues presented by the private bus operators from Ponda and Quepem will be placed before the state government. “We will take the issues to chief minister Pramod Sawant and transport minister Mauvin Godinho,” Ghate said.
Seventy-five bus owners have empanelled their vehicles with Kadamba. Of these, 38 buses are from the Canacona RTO, two from the Ponda RTO, and 35 from the Quepem RTO.
“So far, about 40% of the operators’ buses are off the roads owing to which KTC has requested the operators to get their vehicle empanelled with the corporation,” Ghate said. “Though the buses are off the roads, they require repairs or finance for insurance premiums. They will get empanelled in the next few days.”
