NEW DELHI: Five men were arrested over Thursday and Friday in connection with the double murder of two sisters in RK Puram's Ambedkar Basti.
Pinki and Jyoti were shot dead early on Sunday morning when trying to save their brother Lalit from a group of men. In total, 10 suspects have been arrested.
Police have identified the five arrested on Thursday and Friday as Gautam, Mosis, Mayank, Aman and Sonu, all residents of RK Puram.
"After the murders, five of them went to Rajasthan and stayed there for a few days," an officer said. Four of them - Gautam, Mosis, Mayank and Aman - then went to Ambala and then returned to Delhi with the plan that they would leave for Dehradun, but they were nabbed in Kapashera. Sonu was arrested from west Delhi.
"Sonu was involved in 10-12 criminal cases. He was involved in the conspiracy. We are also investigating whether he provided pistols to Michael and Arjun," an officer said.
The police said Gautam, Mosis, Mayank, Aman along with the others attacked Lalit's residence. "Sonu had also gone to the spot and was standing at the back," the officer said.
The investigation has revealed that the reason behind the murder was a monetary dispute. "Lalit had given money to Dev, who was not repaying it. Lalit had abused Dev for this," an officer said.
All four men, during interrogation, said that apart from Dev, Lalit had abused them too. "Hours before the murder, Dev informed them about Lalit's abuse. They made a plan to teach Lalit a lesson," an officer said.
On Sunday, they first threw stones at Lalit's house and left. When they had left the spot, suddenly Dev stopped them and asked them to return, saying that he wanted to slap Lalit. That is when they shot Lalit's sisters.
The police have found the second pistol used in the shooting. "The pistol was used by Michael. Earlier, we had recovered a pistol at the instance of Arjun," another officer said.
The accused used locally made pistols in the crime, as the probe has revealed. The men claimed that the plan to attack Lalit's was made on Saturday. The cops are probing their testimony.
