Six booked for hoarding grains
Rajkot: Six people were booked for illegally purchasing, hoarding and selling grains under the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) in Junagadh district on Thursday.
The complaints were lodged by Visavadar mamlatdar Balwansinh Revar who found huge quantities of wheat, rice and pigeon peas, stored in the godowns of the accused persons.
The officials seized unaccounted wheat and rice worth Rs 2.5 lakh from the godown of Ilyas Modi who was booked along with Hussain Modi.
In another case, the police booked Bhanu Khava and Rafiq Modi after wheat and toor dal worth Rs 32,500 were seized from their godown in Visavadar.
The third complaint was lodged against Salim Chauhan from whose godown unauthorized stock of wheat and rice worth Rs 6.3 lakh was seized.
The seized stock was handed over to Gujarat State Civil Supplies Corporation, officials said.
