THANE: The municipal corporation would now study the pattern of green waste collections in Mumbai and neighbouring cities to weed out any possibility of misappropriation while transporting them to the civic recycling yard, officials informed. The decision was taken recently by municipal commissioner Abhijit Bangar following allegations of green waste being diverted to other locations other than the designated municipal recycling unit.
The bureaucrat has instructed his teams to do a comparative study with neighbouring corporations including BMC on their green waste disposal cycle. This would help us derive an average ratio of green waste generated in the city so that the same can be optimised and any possible pilferage plugged, said Bangar. “We are planning to check if the waste is diverted to any private facility enroute. We will also install GPS units on vans deployed for transporting the green waste so that they could be tracked,” said Bangar.
