Amreli superintendent of police (SP) Himkar Singh said Agvan had been harassing Goswami since February and forcing her to keep relationship with him. He had threatened to kill her brother if she did not meet him at the specified time and place.
The woman had revealed this to the family when they checked her mobile phone which she used late at night several times to answer calls. Goswami told them she was refusing to keep any relationship with the accused as they were from different faiths. But Saddam continued to harass her and insisted on marriage.
On getting to know about Saddam, Goswami’s family met his parents in Dhar village where they lived and his father even reprimanded him.

The family did not lodge a complaint earlier they were preparing for Goswami's engagement and feared societal shame.
