Spirit AeroSystems' stock rises with plan to resume labor talks

Spirit AeroSystems (NYSE:SPR) rose as much as 5.8% Friday after the maker of aircraft parts said it will resume talks on Saturday with a union that represents striking workers.

“As has been our focus throughout these negotiations, we want to provide our IAM-represented employees a fair-and-competitive contract,” Tom Gentile, CEO of Spirit (SPR) said in a statement. “We are committed to reaching an agreement with Local 839 as quickly as possible for our employees."

About 6,000 members of the International Association of Machinists voted Wednesday night in Wichita, Kansas, to reject a four-year offer from Spirit (SPR). The company, which is a major supplier of plane maker Boeing (NYSE:BA), suspended operations after the vote.

The work stoppage is set to begin at midnight after the current contract expires.
