Drain cleaning, more pumps soon at e-way flood points
Gurgaon: Soon, more high-power pumps will be installed at waterlogging-prone spots on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway for quick removal of excess rainwater. Narsinghpur and IMT Manesar Chowk are the two worst-affected points on the expressway.
Union minister and Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh on Thursday inspected areas affected by waterlogging due to Wednesday's showers. He also held a meeting with officials of GMDA, MCG, MCM, irrigation department and district administration at the PWD guesthouse to review the action taken by the authorities in solving the waterlogging problem in the city as well as in agricultural fields near Najafgarh drain.
GMDA CEO and MCG commissioner PC Meena said waterlogging has come down due to continuous efforts taken by the authorities. “We are going to install more high-power pumps along the service lane of the expressway and other places in the city so that rainwater can be drained out quickly,” he said.
Deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav stressed on cleaning of stormwater drains along the expressway. “Civic agencies have been directed to conduct regular cleaning and desilting,” he said.
Meanwhile, the minister highlighted the damages incurred by farmers due to waterlogging on around 2,500 acres of land in a dozen villages adjacent to the Najafgarh drain. Till the time the problem is resolved, the administration should make a special case to provide compensation to the farmers, Singh said.
