On the other hand, Balkrishna Industries(down 2.67 per cent), Samvardhana Motherson International(down 1.95 per cent), TVS Motor Company(down 1.88 per cent), TIINDIA(down 1.75 per cent) and Hero MotoCorp(down 1.72 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Auto index closed 1.03 per cent down at 14550.2.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 105.75 points at 18665.5, while the BSE Sensex stood down 259.52 points at 62979.37.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 10 ended in the green, while 40 closed in the red.
Shares of Suzlon Energy, Vodafone Idea, Reliance Power, IDFC First Bank and Zomato were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Wheels India, LG Balakrishnan, Synergy Green Ind, De Nora India and TD Power Sys hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while A G Universal, Infollion Research, Urban Enviro Waste, Marvel Decor and Spectrum Talent Mana hit their fresh 52-week lows.
