Mysuru: Chamaraja MLA K Harishgowda on Thursday appreciated the students for preserving and promoting both desi and Indian culture by holding various cultural events. He was speaking after inaugurating Desi Sambhrama cultural festival by beating drums, organised by Kannada Janapada Parishath at Maharani's Science College for Women, in the city.
He also lauded the organisation for teaching life lessons to students by holding folk dance and folk songs like ‘sobhane pade’ events.
He also promised to make all his best efforts for renovation of the century old Maharani’s College, one of the prestigious colleges of the city where over 3,500 students study and 250 teachers teach.
As the proposal for renovation of the college is pending before the government, he said that his government will give the approval very soon in the lines of permitting the renovation of other heritage buildings like MMCRI and its constituent hospitals in the city.
Renovation works of Maharani's College will also be carried out as per heritage norms without affecting its original structure. He said that he has plans to construct another hostel for girls students in the premises if the land is available. Principal D Ravi, Kannada Janapada Parishat divisional convener Kaveri Praksh, Raniprabha, Kamsale Kumaraswamy and others were present.
Vasavi Bhavan will opened on June 25Newly constructed Vasavi Bhavan will be inaugurated on June 25, said Mysore Arya Vysya Yuvajana Sangha president H Nagesh.
Karnataka Arya Vysya Mahasabha has built the structure at a cost of Rs 8 crore on Geetha Mandir Road. Nagesh said Mahasabha has constructed Bhavan to help people and students of the community. The new building is spread over 7,500 sqft and has guest rooms, dormitory facilities, separate hostels for boys and girls and a competitive exam coaching unit.Vasavi Peeth seer Sacchidananda Saraswathi Swami will grace the inaugural function, while former council chairman D H Shankaramurthy will inaugurate it. Mysuru maharaja Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar had gifted 52,000 sqft of land in 1927 for the Mahasabha, in which students hostel and other facilities are provided.
