Delhi: Wanted man arrested after brief exchange of fire in Ghazipur
A man wanted in two murder cases was arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police from east Delhi's Ghazipur area after a brief exchange of fire, police said on Friday.According to the police, the accused has been identified as Zahid.Based on a tip-off, the Special Cell police reached the Ghazipur area of East Delhi on Thursday night, where the accused was supposed to come, the police said. First death, 5 lakh affected as Assam floods turn critical
The first death was reported in the Assam floods which turned critical on Thursday in several districts in the past 24 hours. The number of flood-affected people went up to 4.95 lakh on Thursday evening - up from 1.2 lakh - reported on Wednesday evening.The first death in the season due to flooding was reported from Tamulpur in Baksa district on Thursday, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has confirmed.

SEC asks for 800 companies of central forces for West Bengal panchayat polls
The State Election Commission (SEC) on Thursday asked the Centre for 800 companies of central forces for the Bengal panchayat polls. The 22 companies of central forces requisitioned earlier have already started arriving in the state.The Calcutta High Court had on Wednesday given the SEC a 24-hour window to seek not less than 82,000 central forces for the polls. The SEC chose not to challenge the order but comply with it. State election commissioner Rajiva Sinha on Thursday said: “We have sent out the requisition (for central forces). We will have to wait for the outcome. ”
Delhi Metro hits 110 kmph on Airport Express Line
People going to Indira Gandhi International Airport from Shivaji Stadium will take just around 15 minutes on Delhi Metro’s Airport Express Line with the operational speed of the trains on the line increasing to 110 kmph on Thursday. Earlier, the same route took around 20 minutes. The travel time for the full trip from New Delhi to Dwarka Sector 21 will reduce by over four minutes to just around 19 minutes.“With the enhancement of train speed to 110 kmph, DMRC has set a new benchmark in the Indian Metro sector. It continues to hold the distinction of being one of the fastest metro train systems in India,” said Anuj Dayal, principal executive director, corporate communications, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
