Titan submersible: The pilot, 4 passengers are dead, US Coast Guard says

PremiumCoast Guard officials Thursday in news conference said the pilot and 4 passengers of the submersible are dead due to a “catastrophic implosion" of their vessel. The debris was found 1,600 feet (488 meters) from the bow of the Titanic.

Rear Adm. John Mauger of the First Coast Guard District said. “On behalf of the US Coast Guard and the entire unified command, I offer my deepest condolences," Mauger added.
“Debris found during the search for the vessel“ is consistent with a catastrophic implosion of the vessel."
“The outpouring of support in this highly complex search operation has been great appreciated. Our most heartfelt condolences go out to the friends and loved ones of the crew," news agency AP reported quoting Mauger.
The US Coast Guard earlier in the week said unidentified sounds were detected during the search, but those noises weren’t linked to the missing craft.
OceanGate Expeditions said in a statement that all five people on board, including company CEO Stockton Rush, are believed to be dead. Rush, Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, Hamish Harding, and Paul-Henri Nargeolet “have sadly been lost," OceanGate said in a statement.
“These men were true explorers who shared a distinct spirit of adventure, and a deep passion for exploring and protecting the world’s oceans," OceanGate Expeditions, operator of the mission, said in a statement. “Our hearts are with these five souls and every member of their families during this tragic time. We grieve the loss of life and joy they brought to everyone they knew."
