Sheriff on Jobbie Nooner precautions: Plan ahead and stay safe

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department is advising those who partake in Jobbie Nooner, the massive annual boat party, to take a few precautions to stay safe.
Jobbie Nooner, set for Friday, traditionally occurs around Gull Island, located in the water near Muscamoot Bay and a channel of the St. Clair River on the northern side of Lake St. Clair.
In a news release this week, the sheriff’s department, which is one of several agencies expected to patrol the area, advises boaters to include the following items and practices in their vessel before heading out and while on the water:
- Enough life vests for as many people on board
- Limiting drinking and boating under the usual 0.08 legal limit
- Ensuring all navigation lights are functioning in case you are out after dusk
- Keeping a cell phone or marine radio on hand in the event of an emergency
- Being aware of potential water hazards and knowing locations on the water
“We want everyone to be able to enjoy our waterways,” St. Clair County Sheriff Mat King said in a statement, “whether you are attending Jobbie Nooner or anytime you are out boating please educate yourself, plan ahead, and put safety first.”
Also, in case of an emergency, those in need are encouraged to seek out law enforcement or call 911.
