How well do you tip? Ohio and Kentucky among most generous states

New technology makes it easier and faster to leave a tip for a waiter, a barista or even the crew working the late shift at the fast food drive-thru window.

But not everyone is equally generous.

A March survey by Toast, a company that makes digital payment systems for businesses, used its data to determine which states were home to the best and worst tippers. Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana all made the top 10, while big states that attract large numbers of tourists, such as California, Florida and New York, were in the bottom 10.

  1. Delaware: 21.8%
  2. Indiana: 20.8%
  3. Wyoming: 20.8%
  4. Kentucky: 20.7%
  5. West Virginia: 20.6%
  6. Ohio: 20.6%
  7. New Hampshire: 20.6%
  8. South Carolina: 20.4%
  9. Wisconsin: 20.3%
  10. Pennsylvania: 20.3%
