Samsung’s massive June update for Galaxy S23 is rolling out in Europe

The June 2023 massive camera update for the Galaxy S23 series is reaching the flagship phone in more markets. The firmware debuted last week in a few countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines, and now it is rolling out for Galaxy S23 users in Europe.

The update has the same firmware version as it did previously, which is S91xBXXU2AWF1. And same as before, the new release weighs around 2.2GB and brings a handful of Camera and One UI upgrades and fixes, such as:

  • 2X zoom for Portrait mode
  • Fixed camera autofocus issues
  • Better Night mode processing
  • Smoother One UI transition animations
  • Subtle improvements to haptic feedback

The same update should also fix the HDR issues that can crop up when using the Camera app on the Galaxy S23 series in certain lighting conditions. And as far as the 2nd entry in the bullet-point list is concerned, it appears that the so-called “banana blur” issue discovered in March 2023 was also addressed (via GalaxyClub). This issue caused blury, semi-circular patches around the camera’s focal point.

Parts of Asia might get an even better Galaxy S23 June 2023 update

Interesting to note is that while Samsung continues to expand the reach of its AWF1 update for the Galaxy S23 series, the company is also reportedly working on a different firmware version, which will bring more optimization (via @UniverseIce). This newer update will supposedly roll out in China and South Korea, but it might not reach Europe and other regions.

Regardless of where you are in the world, if you’re using the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, or Galaxy S23 Ultra, you can check for the AWF1 update’s availability by opening the Settings app on your phone, accessing “Software update,” and tapping “Download and install.” If you prefer manual updates through a Windows PC, you can check out the firmware section of our website and download official Samsung firmware files from there.
