Coimbatore: As many as 1,700 inmates of the Coimbatore Central Prison participated in a yoga session organised by the prison department on the occasion of the International Day of Yoga on Wednesday.
Isha Yoga’s Mohanraj and Utharathi conducted the session.
The inmates are not strangers to yoga, a press release from superintendent of prisons M Urmila said. “Yoga camps by Isha Yoga, Amrita Yoga and Raj Vidya Kender are organized for the well-being of inmates.”
Hundreds of doctors and nurses of Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) celebrated the day on the campus on Wednesday morning. CMCH dean A Nirmala led the session.
Coimbatore city police commissioner V Balakrishnan participated in the yoga session organized by the police department at PRS Ground, where over 500 police personnel performed yoga.
BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan, along with hundreds of cadres, participated in a yoga session at Ukkadam Periyakulam park.
Faculty members, employees and students of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management (SVPISTM) also celebrated the day. Director P Alli
Rani emphasized on the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life.
Meanwhile, Tirupur collector T Christuraj performed yoga with school students at Carmel Girls Higher Secondary School in Kangayam. Project director of district rural development agency (DRDA) A Lakshmanan and senior officials were present.
